How to Become Pregnant

Many women want to start a family only to realize it's not so easy to get pregnant. All the years of hearing your parents and friends preach about abstaining from sex to avoid unwanted pregnancies may have led you to believe anyone could get pregnant after just one time in the sack. Sadly, for many women, this is not the case. Luckily, there are some things a woman can do to increase her chances of getting pregnant. Below you will find some tips for knowing and preparing your body for pregnancy.

Know Your Menstrual Cycle and Time Intercourse Accordingly

Understanding your menstrual cycle is one of the most important things you can do when you're trying to get pregnant. Women have different lengths for their cycles and the cycle length determines when each woman is most fertile. A woman who has a 28 day cycle can expect to ovulate on day 14 so she should have sex between days 12 and 15 to improve chances of conception. It is harder for those women who have irregular periods to guess when ovulation will occur. There are other ways to discover your ovulation date – such as through the use of an ovulation predictor.

Know the Signs of Ovulation

As is stated in the previous paragraph, calculation by watching a calendar can give your approximate date of ovulation. However, sometimes you can't be sure when ovulation will occur so you have to look for other signs. A few things you can watch for include:

  1. Increase in vaginal fluids - Before and during the days of ovulation your vaginal fluids will become heavier, thinner, clearer and stretchy
  2. Softening of your cervix - During ovulation your cervix will be slightly open and softer
  3. Other physical signs - Some women will experience abdominal pains, headaches, bloating and increased breasts sensitivity during ovulation

Check Your Environment

Many people pay attention to physical changes and problems. But they should also realize the environment in which they spend their time can determine fertility. Your environment can have a great impact on you - especially when you're trying to get pregnant. Before you try to conceive you should prepare your body as much as possible. Consider things such as do you spend time in stressful surroundings, are you exposed to a lot of chemicals including cosmetics, air fresheners and deodorants, and are you spending your time in smoky rooms? You should also be aware of what you are putting into your body - be sure to minimize consuming artificial products.

After Intercourse

After intercourse you should lay still with a pillow lifting your rear above the rest of your body – remember gravity is your best friend here! Also avoid going to the bathroom for at least 30 minutes - you want to let the little swimmers head in the right direction. So make yourself comfortable, put a pillow under your bum, and take a much deserved nap.
